The Ottawa Bears were out in full force to celebrate Winterlude and Capital Pride. From ice sculptures, skating and a chilly but heartwarming pride parade to good food with furry friends from away, the bears enjoyed a fun and frolicsome weekend of camaraderie and good times.
Congratulations to our new Mr Ottawa Bear, Pedro, on a spectacular performance during a fun-filled evening of music, dance and performances by local talent.
Pedro will now join the Ottawa Bears committee in helping promote positive body image and camaraderie in the local, national and international bear community. Expect to see him from time to time at bear events near you!
Thank you to runners-up Bruce, Sam and Tom for putting it all out there to entertain us. It takes a lot of courage to step onto that stage and these three definitely have lots of courage.
Many thanks also to Arts Court Theatre and the expert sound and lighting of technician Joel, to Capital Kings for their amazing dance routines, to DJ Dez for spinning some excellent tunes during intermissions, to the Ottawa Bears committee members who worked tirelessly to put this event together and to all the volunteers who helped make it a success.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t thank last year’s Mr Ottawa Bear, Chris, for his contributions to the Ottawa bear community over the past year as well as for his hilarious comedy appearance during this year’s show.
Most of all we want to thank you, the bears of Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal for coming out in droves and buying up every last ticket to see this amazing show and donating so generously to a very worthy cause, the Northern Light Refuge.
If you have photos and/or video footage of the event you would like to share, get in touch with us.
Good luck, Pedro, on your upcoming year as the new Mr Ottawa Bear!
This past Saturday was the annual Teddy Bear BBQ at Vincent Massey Park and it was well attended by bears and admirers alike.
Perfect weather, great food and a fun afternoon of frisbee and conversation.
Thanks to everyone who attended and who helped make this a successful event.
Here are some pics from the event:

The first annual Beards, Bears and Beers competition and bar night was held at Swizzles on March 31 and was a smashing success!
Adam (Mr Ottawa Bear 2017) accepted a cheque on behalf of the Northern Lights Refuge of the proceeds from this event. This is the second year that the Northern Lights Refuge has been selected by the reigning Mr. Ottawa Bear as the designated charity to receive money raised by Ottawa Bears at its various events. Thank you to all those who helped make this possible.
Here are some photos of the event:
As most of you already know this year’s Mr. Ottawa Bear was a resounding success and helped raise some much needed funds to help rescue LGBTQ+ refugees who are being persecuted, tortured and killed in countries where being gay is against the law and sometimes punishable by death.
Northern Lights Refuge is the charity that was chosen by last year’s Mr. Ottawa Bear recipient, Adam Frey.
Adam has been working directly with this organization since it’s inception.
A cheque for $500 was presented to Adam by the Ours Ottawa Bears president Lars and the current MOB title holder Chris.
The Ours Ottawa Bears committee would like to thank all those who attended MOB 2018 and who donated generously to this very worthy cause.
Congratulations to the newly crowned Mr Ottawa Bear 2018: Chris!!
Hats off to his two co-competitors, Pedro and Shawn who were brave enough to put it all out there for us.
A heartfelt thank you to our three judges, David, Tim and Tony, and to Jason for a job well done as our MC as well as to Jay as judges boy and tally master.
And finally thank you to all the volunteers without whom we couldn’t have made this event the amazing success it was.
Check out some pictures that we took during the competition.
