The Mr Ottawa Bear 2020 weekend has been announced and it promises to be the best one yet! Featuring bear events all over the city and an action-packed competition with some amazing live entertainment from local artists, silent auctions and a cash bar with all profits going to an amazing charity: Capital Rainbow Refuge.
Congratulations to our new Mr Ottawa Bear, Pedro, on a spectacular performance during a fun-filled evening of music, dance and performances by local talent.
Pedro will now join the Ottawa Bears committee in helping promote positive body image and camaraderie in the local, national and international bear community. Expect to see him from time to time at bear events near you!
Thank you to runners-up Bruce, Sam and Tom for putting it all out there to entertain us. It takes a lot of courage to step onto that stage and these three definitely have lots of courage.
Many thanks also to Arts Court Theatre and the expert sound and lighting of technician Joel, to Capital Kings for their amazing dance routines, to DJ Dez for spinning some excellent tunes during intermissions, to the Ottawa Bears committee members who worked tirelessly to put this event together and to all the volunteers who helped make it a success.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t thank last year’s Mr Ottawa Bear, Chris, for his contributions to the Ottawa bear community over the past year as well as for his hilarious comedy appearance during this year’s show.
Most of all we want to thank you, the bears of Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal for coming out in droves and buying up every last ticket to see this amazing show and donating so generously to a very worthy cause, the Northern Light Refuge.
If you have photos and/or video footage of the event you would like to share, get in touch with us.
Good luck, Pedro, on your upcoming year as the new Mr Ottawa Bear!
As most of you already know this year’s Mr. Ottawa Bear was a resounding success and helped raise some much needed funds to help rescue LGBTQ+ refugees who are being persecuted, tortured and killed in countries where being gay is against the law and sometimes punishable by death.
Northern Lights Refuge is the charity that was chosen by last year’s Mr. Ottawa Bear recipient, Adam Frey.
Adam has been working directly with this organization since it’s inception.
A cheque for $500 was presented to Adam by the Ours Ottawa Bears president Lars and the current MOB title holder Chris.
The Ours Ottawa Bears committee would like to thank all those who attended MOB 2018 and who donated generously to this very worthy cause.
Congratulations to the newly crowned Mr Ottawa Bear 2018: Chris!!
Hats off to his two co-competitors, Pedro and Shawn who were brave enough to put it all out there for us.
A heartfelt thank you to our three judges, David, Tim and Tony, and to Jason for a job well done as our MC as well as to Jay as judges boy and tally master.
And finally thank you to all the volunteers without whom we couldn’t have made this event the amazing success it was.
Check out some pictures that we took during the competition.
Congratulations to Adam who is this year’s Mr. Ottawa Bear!
With stunning performances by the Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus, Boylesque and the Bytown Kings and featuring a surprise visit from our very own local bear celebrity Drake Jensen, the 2017 edition of the Mr. Ottawa Bear competition was a rousing success.
To loud cheers of “woof!” from the audience, Gustavo and Adam strutted their stuff onstage while a silent auction raised money for our chosen charity (Family Services Ottawa).
A great time was had by all!
Here are some pictures of the competition.
As a prelude to the Mr. Ottawa Bear 2017 competition, the official “Meet the Meat” event was held at Swizzles Bar and Grill where we were treated to some excellent “beareoke” singing and we got to meet our first contestant Adam.
Check out some of the event pictures.
