Here are the handsome bears that will be competing for the title of Mr Ottawa Bear 2019.


Bruce was born last century in Military town Trenton, Ontario.

He was featured in “1 Grrl, 5 Bears” by Howard Adler.

Today he works in IT Security as a contractor for the Federal Government.

An avid board gamer, you are likely to see him around town at one of Ottawa’s weekly game nights.

A Long time Leather Bear, in 2013 he won the title NCLP Leather Bear 2013. As such, he is an active member of the Ottawa Knights, and the Ours Ottawa Bears.


Pedro is a handsome Latin bear from Caracas, Venezuela who works in building engineering and has been recognized numerous times for his volunteer work and for his contributions to the local community.

Since 1993 he has been the director of the Churún Merú Venezuelan Dance Group, which regularly performs in the Ottawa area to promote Venezuelan culture.

In 2018 Pedro received the OC150 Community Award which recognized 150 individuals for exceptional contributions to the Ottawa community.

Pedro has also found acceptance with the Ottawa Bears and wants to give back to the community that has welcomed him.


Sam is an aboriginal cub who is still fairly new to the bear community but what he lacks in experience he makes up for with his fun personality.

He feels that competing in this year’s Mr. Ottawa Bear competition will be a good opportunity to grow.

Sam has lived in the Ottawa and Maniwaki areas and is currently working as a security guard, but he has many different job types.

He plays a weird amount of video games, reads lots books and manga, and is about to start training to be an electrical engineer.

In these coming months Sam is going to be a much more active member of the bear community and he hopes to make fun memories and really grow as a young bear.


Tom is a 38 yr old Transplant from Belleville Ontario Canada to Ottawa. He moved to Ottawa in 2014 after having gone back to College.

Tom has been a member of the Ottawa Bears executive serving as the Events Coordinator and Secretary before retiring from the board.

He believes he will be the one to bring back the fun to Mr. Ottawa Bear. This is the heart and soul of the group and he wants the members to remember that this group is ultimately about having a good time.

Tom also can’t wait to be the person that welcomes all new bears, cubs, chasers and admirers to the National Capital Region and will complete this task with flair and a smack of his lips.


These three fine gentlemen will be evaluating our competitors to choose who will represent our club for the coming year.


Winning the Mr. Bear Ottawa 2017 title helped this otter find his bear family after moving here from Drayton Valley Alberta.

During his title year, Adam became a coordinator for an LGBTQ refugee settlement group called Northern Lights Refuge (NLR). Now in its second year, NLR has privately sponsored two gay men from abroad.

He is also an electrical engineering student at Carleton University and has a green streak working in the renewable energy industry. You can find him out bowling, dancing, camping and even at Naked Boys Reading.

Be ready for some long chats as he also has a degree in philosophy.

Been living in Ottawa for 37 years. A math nerd by training and worked for the federal government as a statistician/demographer until retirement a couple years ago.

A very typical Canadian upbringing, on the border of New Brunswick and Maine, the son of a lumberjack and a school teacher. Andre is the 8th out of 10 boys. And yes we did have a family hockey team and yes all the brothers are hairy. There were no girls.

Other than the MLO title, Andre has served on the Lambda Foundation for Excellence, a scholarship fund for Gay and Lesbian studies in Canadian universities. He was the founding president of Club mustache, an amateur sports Organization for gay men in Ottawa, the genesis to many sports groups like the Rideau Speedos and Gay Ottawa Volleyball. and he still plays volleyball on the gay competitive team (Yes the oldest player in the competitive league). And he has been a volunteer at many AIDS charities in Ottawa.

Andre made national news with his partner in 1992 when they were the first openly gay couple in Ontario to publicly adopt a child together. Although gay couples had not been recognized legally then, the ruling set precedents that ultimately change the province’s family laws and the federal laws afterwards. Andre and his partner we’re media contact persons for Egale in Canada and spoke to Senate committees that led to recognizing same-sex couples and gay marriages in Canada.


Tom lives in Toronto with his lovely husband Peter.

Born and raised in the Hamilton/Niagara region, Tom moved to Toronto in 1985.

He’s a Certified Electronic Engineering Technologist and has been a member of Bear Buddies, and Bears of Toronto.

Some of his hobbies include square dancing, photography, music, concerts, home renovations, climbing volcanoes and travelling the world.
