On Saturday, March 30th the Ottawa Bears held a fundraising bar night at T’s Pub on Somerset which was very well attended by lots of furry, friendly and burly bears.
You can never say that the bears are not generous because the 50/50 draw managed to net over $400 towards Northern Lights Refuge. These funds are going to help resettle someone from the middle east who is fleeing persecution and the threat of death.
Thank you Ottawa Bears for your generosity and for your support. We look forward to seeing you at future events in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Bears were out in full force to celebrate Winterlude and Capital Pride. From ice sculptures, skating and a chilly but heartwarming pride parade to good food with furry friends from away, the bears enjoyed a fun and frolicsome weekend of camaraderie and good times.
Congratulations to our new Mr Ottawa Bear, Pedro, on a spectacular performance during a fun-filled evening of music, dance and performances by local talent.
Pedro will now join the Ottawa Bears committee in helping promote positive body image and camaraderie in the local, national and international bear community. Expect to see him from time to time at bear events near you!
Thank you to runners-up Bruce, Sam and Tom for putting it all out there to entertain us. It takes a lot of courage to step onto that stage and these three definitely have lots of courage.
Many thanks also to Arts Court Theatre and the expert sound and lighting of technician Joel, to Capital Kings for their amazing dance routines, to DJ Dez for spinning some excellent tunes during intermissions, to the Ottawa Bears committee members who worked tirelessly to put this event together and to all the volunteers who helped make it a success.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t thank last year’s Mr Ottawa Bear, Chris, for his contributions to the Ottawa bear community over the past year as well as for his hilarious comedy appearance during this year’s show.
Most of all we want to thank you, the bears of Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal for coming out in droves and buying up every last ticket to see this amazing show and donating so generously to a very worthy cause, the Northern Light Refuge.
If you have photos and/or video footage of the event you would like to share, get in touch with us.
Good luck, Pedro, on your upcoming year as the new Mr Ottawa Bear!
This year’s Ours Ottawa Bears BBQ will be held on Saturday July 7th at Vincent Massey Park Section O. It is free of charge for members, non members of the Bears are welcome to attend for a charge of $10.00. Parking available close by for a fee. Hope to see many of you there.
Get your sleeping bag out! Bears at Plein Bois is back again this summer.
Mark your calendar for the weekend of June 1-3 and be sure to book well in advance as trailers and camp sites are limited.
The weekend will feature a bear meal together at the Bistro PB Grill, a bear cocktail party, a drag show featuring Miss Conception and a whole lot of fun in the sun by the pool.
Plein Bois offers many amenities including trailer rentals, two heated pools (one is clothing optional), a very large jacuzzi spa, on-site DJ, cocktail bar, hot and happening dance hall, restaurant, snack bar and central store.
Perfect for those who want to rough it or for those who are more into “glamping” and want to be pampered.
Note: Ours Ottawa Bears is not collecting money for this event. All arrangements and payments must be made directly through the Plein Bois camping office but please let us know once you’re booked so we can keep you informed about the group’s activities.
Adam Frey accepted a cheque on behalf of the Northern Lights Refuge of the proceeds of the Ours Ottawa Bears’ event “Beards! Bears! and Beer!” which was held earlier this year. This is the second year that the Northern Lights Refuge (https://www.facebook.com/northernlightsrefuge) has been selected by the reigning Mr. Ottawa Bear as the designated charity to receive money raised by Ours Ottawa Bears at its various events. Thank you to all those who helped make this possible.
